Description:
The HOPE Scholarship is a lottery funded scholarship for Georgia high school students who graduate with a 3.0 in high school and maintain that 3.0 GPA in a public university in Georgia. It provides full tuition for students (~$6000 a year).
Losing the HOPE Scholarship, however, is more than just losing $6,000 a year. It's about losing hope. With cutbacks looming in the distance due to revenue shortfalls in Georgia, access to the HOPE scholarship will becoming increasingly restricted. The work burden on students like Natasha Miles and Michelle Leon will only increase, making higher education less about achievement and more about financial means.
