Description: Main Characters Austin and Molly became best friends within minutes of Molly moving in down the street. Treating their dull suburban neighborhood like their own kid sanctuary Austin and Molly were always too busy inventing, sharing, running, and playing to care about or even notice their gender differences. As they grew older however the differences became more apparent. For Molly’s twelfth birthday Austin picked out a necklace and left it for her on her porch. It was around this time that they both felt something more than friendship developing in their hearts. Austin’s mother became concerned with how close the two remained as they grew older; especially since Molly’s parents seemed to never be around. One night when Molly showed up at Austin’s doorstep with her sleeping bag to join a campout festivity Austin’s mother answered the door and sent her home claiming that coed sleepovers were no longer appropriate; Austin’s friends made faces at her through the window as she was exiled. Crushed and feeling her friendship with Austin slipping away, Molly found things only getting worse when a new girl, Rebecca, transferred to their school. Rebecca set her sights on Austin and became yet another force driving them apart. Molly started avoiding Austin to avoid confrontation with Rebecca and their lives began to polarize. Austin’s family pushed him towards competitive sports and Molly poured her emotions into art and journaling. Confused and hurt by each other’s behavior they grew apart and stopped talking. By their Senior year in high school they couldn’t be more different from one another. Austin was one of the school’s football stars and Molly had become an artsy goth who never said much of anything to anyone. However, with their lives about to change drastically yet again with graduation, the two started to feel something resurfacing; and typically shy, soft-spoken Molly was about to make a huge impression not only on Austin but their entire 7th period class.
