Campus MovieFest is on the Road Again
50,000 Students Will See Their Stories on the Silver Screen
(ATLANTA) – August 22, 2007 – The world’s largest student film festival is taking to the road and kicking off the 2007-2008 Campus MovieFest (CMF) tour. The only organization of its kind, CMF will be giving 50,000 university students all of the cutting-edge tools necessary to create amazing short films completely free. The nationwide road trip showcasing students’ work will begin at the University of Alabama and end at the Campus MovieFest National Grand Finale in June 2008. The best student films will debut across the globe and on all sized screens – from AT&T mobile phones, to in-flight at 30,000 feet, online, and, of course, on the silver screens at the most prestigious theaters across the country.
Campus MovieFest began as one event started by students at Emory University in Atlanta. This year, colleges in 15 U.S. cities will participate, including Atlanta, San Francisco, San Jose, Calif., Rohnert Park, Calif., Los Angeles, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Athens, Ga., Jacksonville, Fla., Tampa, Fla., Orlando, Davis, Calif., Palo Alto, Calif., Stockton, Calif., Boston and New York.
The 2007 - 2008 CMF Tour includes up to 35 events nationwide featuring student-made movies, red carpet finales and incredible awards. “With more schools, bigger prizes and more opportunities for exposure, Campus MovieFest is continuing its journey as the premier outlet for student stories on all sized screens, from the smallest mobile phone to the largest silver screen,” stated David Roemer, Co-founder of Campus MovieFest.
The films will compete to be named CMF Best Picture, Best Comedy, Best Drama, Audience Choice, AT&T Best Cell Film, and Elfenworks Social Justice Film of the Year. Throughout the tour, CMF will honor winners across the nation with $400,000 in prizes and grants, including Apple computers, iPods, AT&T phones and giftcards, cash grants and national exposure. The top CMF movies will be featured exclusively on AT&T mobile phones for 14 days via the company’s CV video service. The top movies will then be available on Virgin America’s in-flight entertainment system, on Joost’s Campus MovieFest channel, on OurStage at www.ourstage.com, and more. All CMF movies will be showcased on campusmoviefest.com.
CMF gives students one week to create their masterpieces and provides the latest technology to do so. The equipment, provided at no cost to the filmmakers, includes Apple laptops equipped with iMovie and Final Cut editing software, digital camcorders, music from independent artists for soundtracks and all the training needed. In addition, AT&T, the exclusive wireless partner of the 2007 – 2008 CMF Tour, will provide students with the latest 3G video-capable handsets to shoot behind-the-scenes footage as they compete for AT&T Best Cell Film.
Top films are showcased at university and regional events, followed by the Campus MovieFest National Grand Finale, complete with red-carpet treatment. AT&T, the nation’s largest wireless provider, will feature winning movies exclusively on AT&T mobile phones. AT&T customers can text CMF to FILM (3456) to receive a link to the CMF content on their device. Students will also be able to vote for the best movie at each event via text message and send messages to applaud or critique the current film in real time on screens next to the movies.
“We’re delighted that our innovative wireless features will enable students to express their creative spirit. Up and coming filmmakers will be able to use our newest video capabilities to create and then distribute their work directly to an enormous mobile audience,” said Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, executive director of Marketing for AT&T’s wireless unit.
CMF also introduces a new social justice category this year in partnership with the Elfenworks Foundation. Students will have access to the platform needed to enlighten the global community about solutions to domestic poverty by creating short movies featuring groups and individuals working to lighten the burden facing the one in eight citizens living below the poverty line. “Stories are worth a thousand statistics. I see Campus MovieFest films providing inspiration and new hope to effect lasting change,” said Elfenworks CEO Lauren Spreeth.

About Campus MovieFest
Like a story from a classic Hollywood film, Campus MovieFest (CMF) came from humble beginnings before becoming the world's largest student film festival and the premier outlet for today's greatest student filmmakers. In 2000, four friends attending Emory University set out to make a difference by providing Apple laptops, camcorders, and a week for students to translate their stories onto film. More than 100,000 students around the world have since participated, receiving all the necessary technology and training for free, thanks to corporate partners. The 2007 - 2008 CMF Tour includes 35 events nationwide featuring 50,000 student movie-makers, red carpet finales and over $400,000 in prizes. Additional information and thousands of CMF films are available online at www.campusmoviefest.com.
