Campus MovieFest and the Elfenworks Foundation applaud the efforts of all the socially conscious student filmmakers participating this year. By attaching faces and stories to the staggering statistics, masses of CMF participants can effect change in our neighborhoods by creating short movies. Find out more below about the opportunity and prizes and last year's winners, or find out more about The Elfenworks Foundation.

Congratulations to this year's first place winner, "Homeboy Industries" and runner-up "Hands of Change"

About the Category

This year, CMF and The Elfenworks Foundation have again teamed up on a social justice category challenging students to create films that capture the often untold stories of those in our communities who are ‘in harmony with hope’ and making a difference in helping with domestic poverty.

One out of eight people (37.0 million people) in our country live below the poverty line today, and the 2008-2009 Elfenworks Social Justice CMF category focuses on showcasing the visionaries ‘right next door’ working towards solutions to this very real problem. CMF and Elfenworks challenge teams of student filmmakers to call attention to the issues faced by America’s forgotten poor, by sharing the lives of the change-makers all around us in the hope of inspiring more citizen involvement.

Hands of Change

How It Works

Teams of students at participating universities across the nation will receive all of the tools necessary to tell their stories in a week: an Apple laptop, editing software, digital camcorders, music by independent artists, and technical training. The films will be recognized at Campus MovieFest Finales throughout CMF's 2008-2009 Tour making thousands of college students aware of the poverty issue. The top films from each area will be shown to audiences at the regional CMF Grand Finales.

Teams may also take more time to make their movies for this category, with an option to submit prior to May 12. The year's best films from all participating universities as determined by The Elfenworks Foundation will receive nationwide showcasing at the Campus MovieFest National Grand Finale in June and the winning team will earn a $10,000 grant, with runner-up teams earning $2,500.

New Music Category

For the first time Campus MusicFest teamed up with the Elfenworks Foundation to find music whose message told the stories of those suffering from poverty and other social injustices. Congratulations to Eyeshine for their song "Alone" which took home the first place prize of $2,500. Runners up included "This Time" by The Constant and "Lost and Forgotten" by Tsavo.
