Campus MovieFest (CMF) is the premier outlet for the next generation of filmmakers. CMF began eight years ago when four students at Emory University provided students with everything they needed -- including camcorders and Apple laptops -- to make movies in one week. Since then, more than 250,000 students have told their stories on the big screen, receiving all the necessary technology and training for free thanks to corporate partners and schools.
During this year’s tour, 250,000 students will participate in over fifty events, earning $400,000 in prizes and the chance to see their movies on the big screen at school red carpet finales and regional grand finales at The Presidio and Cowell Theater in San Francisco, at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, and the SVA Theater in New York City during the Tribeca Film Festival, in addition to showcases on AT&T phones and in-flight on Virgin America. The events culminate at the CMF International Grand Finale at Wynne Las Vegas in June 2010. Additional information and thousands of CMF films are available online at campusmoviefest.com.
Much has changed since that first festival in 2001, but the mission and passion remain the same. The goal of CMF is still to showcase the next generation of moviemakers and empower people everywhere to share their stories with the world. It is a vision that has provided students the chance to learn skills that will be beneficial throughout their lives.
The numbers of students participating in Campus MovieFest each year have grown significantly since the first 1,500 students. 450,000 students attending over 50 different schools in the United States and the UK have made over four thousand movies. CMF has awarded over $1,000,000 in prizes. The events offer global exposure to students thanks to partners including AT&T, Apple, and Virgin America, as well as media coverage from The Today Show to ABC World News Tonight to CNN. The phenomenon shows no sign of slowing either - as long as students have a story to tell, CMF will be there to bring their tales to the world.
